Well, I did go to the UNCG Gerontology semester kick off. It was a small crowd, but it was a lot of fun. And I actually made a new connection in the world of gerontology, so that was a good thing. Even though the crowd was small it made me realize that I can do this. I can get out there and network. I can talk about myself and other topics with ease. Now I just need to find those places to network. I have a few ideas in my mind so I will let you know how those pan out for me!
I am also looking into more classes and certifications that might be useful for my career. If I want to stay in senior living, which is definitely an option but not a must, many positions need specific certifications. Especially if you work in administration or activities/wellness. So that is something to think about. And I know there will be other things out there that I am unaware of that will enhance my abilities and job prospects.
Right now, my biggest priority is not wasting this degree and education. While I really do not consider my undergraduate degree a waste of time because I did learn a lot and met a lot of people who I can call on when needed, the degree itself did absolutely nothing for me in the job sense. I really want having this master's degree to help me out. I think I have earned that, especially at this point in my life. That is all.
IF you liked undergrad you are going to LOVE grad schools, it's easier in a way but more applied learning.
