Escapades in Adulting - The Dentist

This morning, I had a dentist appointment.  Always a joy.  Actually, I don't mind going to the dentist anymore, not like I did as a child.  And I'm lucky enough to have decent dental insurance so that's a plus.  Still, my morning prior to my appointment was full of anxiety.  I guess it's just the natural feelings of going to the dentist.  Afraid they'll find something while they're poking around in the mouth.  Fun Fun LOL

I knew what to expect this time as it was my 3rd quadrant cleaning.  If you've never had one before, it is a VERY deep cleaning of the teeth, one quarter of your mouth at a time.  They scrape all sides of the teeth, front, back and in between, chipping away at any thing that has built up.  They also clean the gums, basically pulling them and digging down underneath to clear away any bacteria.  Another fun aspect of the whole adventure.

My dentist, Dr. Nottage, is great and my hygienist, Sara, is beyond great.  She enjoys what she does and that makes a difference.  I guess I can see how scraping away other people's plaque can be quite exhilarating. Maybe in my next life.  But they really numb you up to have this kind of cleaning.  It took 4 shots - and not the fun kind either.  They didn't hurt, but there's just something menacing about seeing that needle coming towards you.  As a kid, I would've been crying.  I remember I actually got a cavity filled once without any novocain because the needle scared me so much.  Ah, well.  3 shots to the front of the right side of my upper gum and one to the roof of my mouth.  Good times LOL

Overall, the procedure went just fine and Sara was quite pleased with how things are coming along.  I get to do it again in two weeks.  Might as well get the last one out of the way and start building better oral health...something I've been lacking for a long, long time.  Afterwards, I went to work and they mercifully sent me home.  I was still numb on the right side of my face, so trying to answer the phone at the desk would not have been the easiest thing I've ever done.  But, they didn't really need me today and I was glad to be able to come home and rest.  I remember that the last one I had hurt like a mofo afterwards.  Thanks to Ibuprofen, this one wasn't bad at all, just tender.

Of course, on my way out of the dentist's parking lot, my check engine light comes on.  Really?  Seriously?  But that's another tale for another day.

That is all :)
