Yesterday, I had a dear friend that I had not seen in over 20 years stop by the house. Melissa was on her way to Raleigh, and we made plans for her to stop here and visit on her way. It was so wonderful to see her. She really has not changed since I saw her last. I mean, of course, we've all aged but she looks great and still had the funny, sparkling personality that I remembered! We visited for an hour or so. We caught up on people and our lives over the past few decades LOL All in all, it was a good time.
We are both in a place in our lives where reconnecting with important people is a main goal in our lives now. We have different circumstances that brought us to this place, but the goal is the same. And even though I have said it many times before, having these kinds of visits at home are what I long for. I'm slowly making the house my own and it shows. And I didn't have to do much of anything to prepare for the visit. Yes, I had coffee and sodas available. And some cookies. But I didn't have to put out a big spread or anything. Not that I mind doing that at all, of course, but this was simple and relaxing and rejuvenating. We just enjoyed each other's company.
Growing up I remember people just visiting each other. Stopping by unannounced or planned. It didn't matter. There was always time and room for friends. I want more people to stop by. Just to say hello, share a cup of coffee or a drink, and just sit and be with each other. Talk about whatever. Have that connection. It's a level of social intimacy that is often unachieved because visiting is becoming a lost art. And I want to bring that art back. So, if you want to stop by sometime, just let me know. I would love to have you!
