Many of the antique and collectible dishes that I own have chips and cracks in them. I love that. To me, that shows that they have been used and loved. I have no problem setting my table with a plate that has a crack in the middle of it or a chip on the rim. Why not? It has still got plenty of use left in it. I am definitely not perfect so there is no need for my dishes to be perfect either. I feel the same way when I am out shopping at an antiques mall or thrift store. I have bought pieces that have imperfections, often at a very good price. This pitcher is one example.
I found this pitcher at the Twin Deer Antiques Mall in High Point. Anytime I go to an antiques mall, I have to walk around once completely without picking anything up. I make mental notes of pieces that I like and where they are. If they are still there when I come back around, then it was meant for me to have it. This is one of those pieces. I love the shape of it. And the color. That subtle green in the glaze is beautiful to me. It has two chips on it. One on the bottom and one on the spout. But, for $8, I did not care.
The pitcher now sits in the windowsill of my laundry room. I like to fill my windows and ledges with fun things. And I use this pitcher to water my plants. The angle of the spout makes it perfect for watering without spilling everywhere. So, I do use it several times each week. It may not be used for its original purpose, but it is still a piece that I utilize and enjoy!
