Sometimes I wonder if engaged couples even register for china anymore? Granted it's been a long time since I have bought a gift off of someone's bridal registry, and is that even a thing anymore? But the last time I did there were no dishes there really. At least a patterned set. I remember when Mom had to buy a wedding gift, brides were often registered at Belk's in Monroe for their dinnerware. These days, it's Target and Ikea and places like that. But I digress.
This is Mom's everyday china. She and Dad were married in 1968 and in those days, you registered for fine and everyday china. This pattern is called Seville and was manufactured by Syracuse China. I love it. I would say that I ate 99% of my meals in our house on this china. I do not recall ever using her good china. It was always in a cabinet but never used. I think this is a fun pattern and it definitely matched the kitchen of my childhood: orange counter tops, gold vinyl flooring, avocado green fridge and stove. Mom invested in more pieces when Syracuse discontinued the pattern in 1970.
When June married Dad and moved into the house in Monroe, Bill and I received many of the things in the house that were Mom's. I got this set of china and, like her, use it almost every day. I find comfort in it because it's a piece of her that is with me at every meal. And I genuinely like this pattern. I am not sure if would be something I would have chosen on my own as my tastes change over the years. But I do love it and have added to it as well. I found dessert plates that Mom didn't have and also a chop plate. I didn't know what that was but basically, it's a large platter. And I am always on the lookout for pieces that I don't have yet. One I know is the butter dish. I must have that LOL
Anyway, I love these dishes, and I use them all of the time. And they're dishwasher safe! haha! I hope to pass them on to someone else one day that will enjoy them as much as i do. Thanks, Mom!
